Announcing athena - experimental control and automation software designed specifically for open-source robotics.

athena

Communication with the robot hardware is via connection with low cost Arduino or compatible boards.

Integration with numerous cloud based APIs greatly augment and enhance the features and functionality of your robot platform.

The main software is written in Node.js LTS and has been optimised for use with multiple configurations including NVIDIA Jetson and Raspberry Pi.

Modular and expandable

We have developed the very core of athena to run on low cost boards such as the Raspberry Pi with more advanced features available to more powerful hardware and/or dedicated ML/AI hardware such as the NVIDIA Jetson range and Coral.

The core software processes information from multiple input sources, such as vision and audio systems, distance sensors and accelerometers and communicates with Arduino compatible boards and/or the Raspberry Pi pico in order to control the movement of the robot and its physical features/characteristics.

By adding additional hardware and processing power, you can expand upon your robot quickly and easily, additional software can be easily developed in JavaScript to integrate via the athena API.

Designed for low cost hardware

Designed and developed specifically for low cost hardware, athena is capable of handling complex robotics operations and machine learning on readily available, low cost boards, servos, sensors, cameras and controllers.

Web-based user interface

The main UI of athena is a separate module built to deliver simple access via any device with a modern web browser.

Robot support

athena is highly adaptable and expandable via modular software components so is compatible with a wide range of robotics hardware. The software is currently running on our InMoov robot and with our NAO robots.

We plan to offer dedicated, "out of the box" options for specific robots and robot configurations in order to make athena more accessible to all users .

Open source

Our athena software will be fully open source once we reach Beta stage.
